Like so many, I found comfort in baking during the uncertain days of the Covid lockdown. What began as a hobby — bringing sweet treats into school for colleagues and sharing bakes with family and friends — quickly became something more. I was a full-time teacher at the time, and before long, people were asking me to make cakes for their birthdays and celebrations. I loved how much people enjoyed my bakes!

When schools reopened, I returned to teaching full-time and had to put baking on pause. But in 2022, my world changed. My partner and I lost our baby girl at 22 weeks — an experience that changed me. In the months that followed, I realised I could no longer be the teacher I once was. Leaving the profession I had worked so hard for broke my heart, but I knew I needed to find myself again.

I turned back to baking, this time not just as a distraction, but as a way to reconnect with myself. What started as therapy slowly became a passion — especially for the beauty and creativity that could be expressed in buttercream florals. Each cupcake became a little work of art, some were less successful than others... but I persevered .
Fast forward to 2025, and I’m now a proud mum to the most incredible baby girl — and with the support of an amazing partner I am the founder of The Bouqcake House. What began as a way to cope has blossomed into a business filled with love, artistry, and joy.
